SIMEC Atlantis Energy has opened its first office in Nagasaki, Japan.
This is the second office the company has opened in Asia and will compliment Atlantis’ presence in Singapore.
The primary function of the new entity, which is called Atlantis Operations Japan (AOJ), will be to manage the construction works that are to be carried out under Atlantis’ EPC contract with Kyuden Mirai Energy (KME) .
Under this contract Atlantis and AOJ will supply a 500kW tidal turbine and deliver all onshore and offshore construction works. The office also gives Atlantis a base from which to build out further tidal power capacity across the prefecture of Nagasaki, the company noted.
The office could also provide a base for combustion technical staff when they travel to Japan to witness large scale combustion testing being carried out for the Uskmouth Power Station conversion project. In September 2019, Atlantis awarded Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Europe GmbH (MHPS Europe) the contract to carry out the design and development of the combustion system for its Uskmouth Power Station conversion project.
