UK-based construction consultancy Promontory has been selected to provide project-based contracts and commercial management during the construction of the 640MW Yunlin wind farm offshore Taiwan.

Promontory said that the services will be provided ”to one of the global leaders in the construction of offshore wind.”

”We are proud to be supporting this marvellous industry and pleased to put our expertise to work in the field, to help make this project another major success for our client,” the company said.

The Yunlin wind farm will be built eight kilometres off the Taiwanese west coast and will consist of 80 Siemens Gamesa turbines of the 8MW class.

The wind farm is expected to come online in 2021 and deliver power to the Taiwanese grid under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Taipower.

The project is 73% owned by wpd and 27% owned by a Sojitz Corp-led consortium which includes Chugoku Electric Power Co. Inc., Chudenko Corporation, Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc., and JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation.
