The consortium of ENGIE Fabricom, Smulders, and DEME Offshore has loaded out the offshore substation destined for the Mermaid offshore wind project in Belgium.

According to Smulders, the 1,200t substation is moving out of the ENGIE Fabricom’s yard in Hoboken and is ready for installation at the project site 40-50km off the coast of Ostend.

The 235MW Mermaid project is part of the SeaMade offshore wind farm together with the 252MW Seastar project.

The 487MW wind farm will have two offshore substations, which will collect the electricity produced by 58 Siemens Gamesa 8.4MW turbines, convert it from 33kV to 220kV, and export it into the grid via Elia’s Modular Offshore Grid .

The partnership of DEME Offshore, ENGIE, and Smulders is responsible for the full engineering, procurement, construction, transport, installation, and commissioning of the two high voltage substations.
