South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines of Japan said on Wednesday that the duo had signed a strategic cooperation deal to develop technologies and solutions for the digitalization of LNG FSRU.

Through this collaboration, new “innovative solutions” will be developed to realize “smart” floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) by enhancing the efficiency, convenience, and safety of vessels, the duo said in a joint statement.

This cooperation is expected to be a “great chance to deliver tailor-made smart ship solutions for ship owners by research collaboration,” they said in the statement.

The partnership will cover smart ship digitalization technology such as: digital twin technology, remote diagnostics of main equipment including engines, and augmented reality solution.

Worth mentioning here, the South Korean shipbuilder signed a similar deal last week with the Japanese shipping behemoth on utilizing FSRU’s LNG cold energy .
