Taiwan’s CPC Corporation (CPC) said it has received the country’s first delivery of “carbon-neutral” liquefied natural gas at the Yung-An LNG receiving terminal.
CPC said in its statement that the cargo was sourced at the Sakhalin 2 LNG facility in Russia and delivered onboard the Grand Aniva liquefied natural gas carrier.
The estimated unloaded volume is about 64,000 metric tons of LNG, CPC said, with the cargo delivered under a contract with the Singapore-based Shell Eastern Trading.
The company further noted that “between the production and delivery of LNG to the end-users 240,000 metric tons of carbon emissions are generated, which the company offsets through the carbon neutralization mechanism.”
CPC is currently working on expanding the capacity of the Yung-An terminal. In June last year, it contracted Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions (TGES) to conduct the front end engineering design (FEED) for the expansion.
The Yung-An LNG receiving terminal has been in operation since 1990 and has been expanded twice in the past.
