India’s L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering has launched an investigation into a recent offshore incident on a heavy-lift vessel, which resulted in injuries for two workers.

Following reports that a crane has collapsed on the LTS 3000 vessel operating for L&T offshore India, Offshore Energy Today has reached out to L&T seeking confirmation and further details about the incident. The jacket has reportedly been dropped into the water.
A spokesperson for L&T told Offshore Energy Today that the incident, involving a 3000 ST crane on-board a contracted heavy-lift vessel, deployed West of Mumbai High offshore field, had happened on Sunday, March 8.
The incident happened during operations to lift a jacket.
“Unfortunately, two contract staff have received injuries during the incident. They were immediately rescued and sent for medical treatment as per the EHS protocol of the company and are now safe,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that the rest of the staff, vessel, and jacket were safe. Finally, the spokesperson said that the investigation into the incident had been initiated.
The LTS 3000 is owned by a joint venture between L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering and Sapura Energy. It is a 160m long heavy-lift pipelay vessel based on a customized Ulstein Seabarge 3000 design. Equipped with an AmClyde heavy-lift post crane, 2,000 square meters of free deck area it is capable of laying pipes from 6″ to 60″ in diameter.
The vessel was built by ASL Shipyard Pte. Ltd, in Singapore in 2010.
