Energy company innogy plans to make the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the 1.4GW Sofia offshore wind project in early 2021.

The FID will be reached once the contract conditions for possible supplier companies are established, innogy said.

Onshore construction on the project is also expected to start in 2021, with offshore construction scheduled to begin in 2022.

The commissioning of the wind farm is expected to start in late 2024 or early 2025.

The Sofia offshore wind farm is located some 195 kilometres off the UK coast on the Dogger Bank. The project will comprise up to 200 wind turbines installed in water depths ranging from 21 to 36 metres.

Offshore site investigations at the wind farm started in February and the first tranche of investigations has now been completed .

Sofia was one of the successful projects in the latest Contracts for Difference (CfD) round in the UK.
