Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has paused production at its blade factory at Alexandra Dock in Hull, UK, following the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent governmental recommendations.
“Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has been reviewing its operations daily in light of the Covid-19 outbreak and guidance coming from the government,” the company said in an email statement to OffshoreWIND.biz.

“While guidance regarding factories and industrial operations has been much less prescriptive than that for shops and offices, Siemens Gamesa is taking this opportunity to pause production operations and review safety measures in the light of new government guidelines. Port operations in Hull remain open under the same regime of review,” the company stated.
Siemens Gamesa opened the factory at Alexandra Dock in December 2016, when it officially unveiled the 75m long blade.
The company’s investment in the wind turbine assembly, rotor blade manufacturing factory and service facility in Hull is estimated to be around GBP 310 million (approximately EUR 346.4 million).
The first blades manufactured in the Hull factory were delivered for the Race Bank offshore wind farm in the summer of 2017.
