CIMC Raffles, a part of the CIMC group, has kicked off construction of Wallenius SOL’s LNG-powered RoRo newbuilding at the Yantai shipyard.
With the steel cutting, CIMC Raffles started the construction of LNG-powered 5,800 LM series MegaRoRo newbuildings, the company’s first international order in the new business area the company said in its statement.
The project concept was developed by Danish Naval Architect Knud E. Hansen (KEH), and classified by Lloyd’s Register with flying Swedish Flag.
Wallenius SOL states that the vessels will run on LNG. Upon construction, the vessels will be the largest to ever meet Finnish/Swedish ice class 1A Super standard, ensuring year-round service in the frozen Gulf of Bothnia.
The 242-meter newbuildings will have a sailing speed of 20 knots and a capacity of 5,800 lane meters.
Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for 2021 and the order includes an option for two further vessels. Wallenius SOL is a shipping line formed by Swedish concerns Wallenius Lines and Svenska Orient Linien (SOL).
