Scottish ferry owner Caledonian Maritime Assets (CMAL) has ordered two liquefied natural gas bunkering facilities from KC LNG.
Denmark-based KC LNG, a Kosan Crisplant’s division under MAKEEN Energy, said in a statement it expects to complete the bunkering facilities in July 2022.

The facilities will enable two CMAL’s newbuild ferries to be fuelled with LNG.
The facilities will be located at the Port of Uig on the Isle of Skye and the Port of Ardrossan on the Firth of Clyde.
The installations will comprise fully automated and remotely monitored facilities.
They will have a 150 cubic meter LNG tank with the capability of delivering a bunkering flow of up to 100 cubic meters per hour, according to KC LNG.
In addition to the LNG bunkering facilities, the order also includes a five-year maintenance agreement, KC LNG said.
To remind, the delivery of the two CMAL’s dual-fueled ferries , first such vessels to be built in Scotland, has been pushed back several times from the original one set for early 2018.
This reason behind this is the financial collapse of the Ferguson Marine shipyard that took on the job to build the ferries.
The vessels can operate on LNG and diesel and are designed to carry 127 cars or 16 HGVs, or a combination of both. They can carry up to 1,000 passengers.
