University of Plymouth – Faculty of Science and Engineering wishes to recruit a research fellow for a 3-year full time post in Marine Renewable Energy research (MRE).
The funding has been secured as part of the EU INTERREG Channel Area TIGER project (Tidal stream Industry enerGisEr pRoject).
The aim of the project is to deploy in-stream tidal energy devices at various sites in the UK and Northern France.
The University of Plymouth is contributing tidal resource modelling and analysis of flow data.
This role will see a researcher work with Dr Jon Miles, Dr David Simmonds, Dr Martyn Hann and Professor Deborah Greaves OBE.
The candidate is expected to support a programme of research to review current state of the art in tidal flow modelling, engage in modelling tidal flows at different sites, and analyse ADCP data from these sites to determine velocity and turbulence characteristics.
You are expected to publish results of the TIGER project in leading academic journals. You are also expected to take part in publicising the project and topic, including delivering outreach and stakeholder events, taking part in workshops, project meetings, higher education, conferences, and working collaboratively with our European research partners.

The University of Exeter is one of the research institutes engaged in the TIGER project.
The College wishes to recruit a PhD student under the supervision of Prof Philipp Thies on this project.
This PhD studentship is funded by the University of Exeter, College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences and will support the fundamental research in the field of Reliability Engineering, Component testing and Performance Assessment for Tidal Energy technologies.
The PhD studentship should start in September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter and the student would become part of the Offshore Renewable Energy Group joining the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences at the Penryn Campus in Cornwall.
