EGS expands survey vessel fleet

Marine survey specialist EGS has launched the latest addition to its fleet of multipurpose survey vessels, the Bold Explorer.

The Bold Explorer is a former Stalwart-class vessel from the US Navy.

It is also the sister ship of the Geo Resolution who joined the EGS fleet in 2014.

The conversion of the 68 metres long vessel took place in Singapore in Q1 2020.

The sea trials went on in the South China Sea, and after that the Bold Explorer completed mobilization for its first contract in April.

EGS selected the latest product offerings from Kongsberg including a full-ocean depth EM124 multibeam echosounder, a high resolution shallow water EM2040C multibeam echosounder, a GeoPulse 16 elements hull-mounted pinger and a HiPAP 502 USBL system.

Furthermore, the vessel comes with a series winches for deployment of geophysical and geotechnical equipment to 2,000 metres water depth.

In addition, the vessel carries a Neptune 3000 Seabed CPT, various sampling devices and also a dedicated survey launch for inshore surveys.

EGS has also recently completed a geophysical and geotechnical survey for the second submarine cable of Seychelles .

The vessel Geo Resolution, completed the survey to support the construction of a branch on the PEACE system.

The subsea cable connects Seychelles to the main network.
