Ørsted’s Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm has delivered first power to the Dutch grid.
According to the Danish company, the first Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbine began producing electricity on 28 April.
“This is a big milestone for Borssele 1 & 2. Ørsted is doing its utmost to allow the construction of the offshore wind farm to continue during the COVID-19 crisis,” said Flemming Thomsen , Senior Programme Director, Borssele 1 & 2.
“We do this in a way that puts the health and safety of our contractors and our own employees first. For the time being, this is succeeding, and construction is on schedule.”
Borssele 1 & 2 will comprise a total of 94 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines, of which the first was installed in mid-April.
Project construction started in January with the installation of the first foundation at the site located 22km off the coast of the province of Zeeland.
Once completed this year, the 752 MW project will become the largest offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.
