Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor has extended the charter for a Floatel International-owned accommodation rig for operations on a field offshore Norway.

Equinor and Floatel International have agreed to extend the firm period for Floatel Endurance at Martin Linge to the end of January 2021, Floatel said on Wednesday.

Equinor also has the option to extend the charter further.

The Floatel Endurance has been working for Equinor on the Martin Linge field since November 2019 when it replaced Floatel Superior.

The previous extension was agreed last February with an expiration date at the end of June 2020. This included further options to the end of 2020.

Floatel Endurance is a semi-submersible accommodation and construction support vessel (flotel) designed for worldwide operation with emphasis on some of the harshest environmental conditions in the world, such as the Northern North Sea.

It was built in 2015 by KeppelFELS Shipyard in Singapore and it is able to accommodate 440 people.

In recent company news, a charter for a Floatel International-owned flotel with Ineos in the UK North Sea has been postponed for 2021.
