MAN Energy Solutions bagged a deal from Kawasaki Heavy Industries to supply two dual-fuel engines to a Japanese power plant.
In what is lauded as a first for the domestic power market, MAN will deliver the engines to the Miyako Island power plant. Okinawa Electric Power Company (OEPC) owns and operates the facility.
The dual-fuel engines will generate around 24 MW of electrical power in its role as the primary base-load provider for the small Japanese holiday island, improving efficiency as well as reducing emissions.
“Our engines will mainly run on natural gas but, due to their dual-fuel capability, also offer maximum fuel flexibility and reliability. This is highly important for independent power supply for remote islands such as Miyako”, said Martin Höhler, regional head of sales for MAN Energy Solutions power plant business in the Asia Pacific region.
He stressed that the order for Miyako is first for the Japanese power-generation market as these will be the very first dual-fuel engines to be installed in the whole country.
