Australian largest LNG company Woodside has awarded a supply and fabrication contract to compatriot Civmec for the Pluto-Karratha gas plant interconnector project.
Under the deal, Western Australia-based Civmec will carry out the fabrication of structural steel, piping, a module and skids located within Woodside’s Pluto LNG plant.
Woodside expects construction of the piping and modules will support around 40 local jobs and run for approximately seven months, starting in 2020.
Pluto LNG plant located on the Burrup Peninsula near Karratha will be used to support the interconnector project.
The interconnector will transport gas from Pluto LNG to the North West Shelf project’s Karratha gas plant via a 5km pipeline, constructed along the existing Dampier to Bunbury natural gas pipeline corridor.
According to Woodside, the interconnector has the potential to create opportunities to take advantage of future excess capacity at the Karratha gas plant.
It will also provide the potential to accelerate future developments of Pluto gas reserves, as well as third-party resources, the company said.
To remind, Woodside announced a final investment decision on the pipeline component of the interconnection in August last year.
The company has also entered into deals with DDG Operations, part of the Australian Gas Infrastructure Group, for the construction of the pipeline and its ongoing operation and maintenance.
Construction and operation of the pipeline is subject to regulatory approvals by Western Australia and finalization of the commercial deals with the Pluto and North West Shelf JV participants.
