Longitude Engineering, part of LOC Group, has provided the concept and basic design services for Woen Jinn Harbor Engineering’s new DP2 cable-laying vessel that will service the Taiwanese offshore wind market.

Longitude Engineering also provided construction specifications for yard engagement and procurement activities.

The DP2 oceangoing vessel design, with a focus on cable operations in Taiwan’s environmental conditions, has received approval-in-principal by ABS and CR Class, the company said.

The back deck was specifically designed to be suitable for inter-array and export cables, as well as repair work.

“This was a complicated project that needed to meet very specific requirements from various stakeholders,” said Danny Ng , Project Manager for Longitude Engineering.

“To deliver this project, we pooled resources across our UK and Singapore offices, combining experienced operational surveyors from LOC Renewables, with the cable lay design experience of Longitude UK, and the design capabilities of Longitude Singapore.”

Prior to the design, Longitude evaluated Woen Jinn’s current assets and potential conversions to meet the operational criteria.

As reported back in 2018, Woen Jinn secured a contract with Ørsted for the inter-array cable installation at the Greater Changhua offshore wind projects, which includes a special financial arrangement that allows WJ to invest in the new-build cable-laying vessel WoenJinn#7.
