Igeotest Geoscience has secured a contract with Prysmian to carry out the geophysical and geotechnical campaign for the installation of the Lanzarote-Fuerteventura AC cable.
In December last year, Prysmian announced a €27-million deal with Spanish TSO Red Eléctrica de España (REE) to connect two Canary Islands (Lanzarote and Fuerteventura).
The project involves the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a 132 kV HVAC three-core submarine.
The deal also includes a land power cable system with XLPE insulation.
The turn-key interconnection will link Playa Blanca, in the island of Lanzarote, to La Oliva, in the island of Fuerteventura.
The submarine cable route covers around 14 kilometres and an underground route of around 2 kilometres.
According to the deal in December, the submarine cables will come from Prysmian’s facility in Arco Felice, Italy.
Prysmian’s facility in Vilanova, Spain will manufacture the land cables section.
The Group’s cable laying vessels will carry out the installation activities.
Delivery and commissioning of the project are scheduled for 2021.
This Canary Islands link project is a further collaboration between REE and Prysmian.
In the past, the Italian cabling firm also secured two interconnectors between Spain and Morocco, and both projects linking the Balearic Islands .
