Equinor has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) for exploration drilling in the North Sea offshore Norway using the Deepsea Atlantic rig.

The PSA said on Friday that Equinor had been given consent for exploration drilling (pilot hole) in block 34/7 in the North Sea.

The well is named 34/7-U-26 and the prospect name is 7 Fjell.

It is located in production licence 089 in a water depth of 142 metres.

The drilling will last for four days and it will be performed using the Deepsea Atlantic semi-submersible drilling rig.

The Deepsea Atlantic is a sixth generation deepwater and harsh environment semi-submersible rig capable of operating at water depths of up to 3,000 meters.

Earlier this week, Equinor also received safety consent to use Transocean Norge rig for plugging, drilling, and completion of Mikkel and Tyrihans, and exploration drilling of pilot well 6407/1-A-3 BH/CH located in the Norwegian Sea.
