Diamond Transmission Partners Gets Walney Extension Link License

UK Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (GEMA) has granted Diamond Transmission Partners Walney Extension with the offshore transmission license for the Walney Extension wind farm in the Irish Sea.

In addition to being granted the 20-year license, Diamond Transmission Partners has been required to enter into a range of agreements with the generator, relevant distribution network owners and the National Electricity Transmission System Operator.

The transmission assets, which hold an asset value of GBP 447 million, include the onshore substation, export cables, and the offshore substations.

In March 2019, Ofgem selected Diamond Transmission Partners Walney Extension as the preferred bidder for the offshore transmission license.

Located circa 19km from the Walney Island coast in Cumbria, Walney Extension features 40 8 MW MHI Vestas and 47 7 MW Siemens Gamesa turbines which have been in full operation since September 2018.
