JDC lands new job for jack-up rig in Japan

Japan Drilling Co. (JDC) has been awarded a contract by Mitsui Oil for the provision of a jack-up rig for drilling operations in Japan.

Japan Drilling Co. (JDC) has been awarded a contract by Mitsui Oil for the provision of a jack-up rig for drilling operations in Japan.

JDC said on Thursday that the contract was awarded to the HAKURYU-11 drilling rig.

The rig will operate in the Tenpoku Seiho Oki, Hokkaido area.

The contract is for one firm well with an estimated duration of 80 days.

The rig is scheduled to start operations for Mitsui Oil around June 2021.

After that, as previously reported, the rig is scheduled to work in Vietnam under a contract awarded in December 2019 . This contract is expected to start around August – October 2021.

The HAKURYU-11 rig is of the KFELS Super B Class and is a 3-leg self-elevating cantilever type drilling rig. It has a maximum operating water depth of 425 feet and a maximum drilling depth of 35,000 feet.

It was built by Keppel FELS Limited, Singapore, in May 2013.
