Tampnet has secured a contract to provide 4G/LTE coverage for the Gemini offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.

Tampnet will operate two base stations, one on each of the two substations, and will also provide coverage for the service operation vessel (SOV) and the crew transfer vessels (CTV) working in the wind farm area.

“We are very excited about the GEMINI Wind Park since this will be the first offshore wind park in the Dutch part of the North Sea we are going to provide with LTE/4G coverage,” said Huib Fenenga , Country Manager at Tampnet NL.

“This project is an important extension of our offshore coverage in the Dutch part of the North Sea.”

The Gemini wind farm comprises 150 Siemens 4 MW turbines and the two offshore substations, named Buitengaats and ZeeEnergie, located 85km north of the Groningen coast.

The 600 MW offshore wind farm was officially opened in early May 2017.
