Aker Solutions has awarded Granada Material Handling with a contract to supply eleven davit crane units for use at the Hywind Tampen floating offshore wind project in Norway.

The company will design, supply, third party certify and commission 11 individual crane units.

Granada said that each of its Python crane units has been specifically designed for the offshore wind farm and the challenging marine environment in which it will operate.

“Securing this contract has been a real team effort by the Granada Renewable product and service division,” said Mark Sidwell , Managing Director of Granada Material Handling. “The Hywind Tampen project is not only great news for Granada but also for our UK based supply chain.”

Granada stated it is already looking to place orders and sub-contract specialist areas of work to other UK businesses and will deliver the crane units over a 6 month period.

Hywind Tampen will feature 11 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines installed about 140 km off the Norwegian coast in water depths of between 260 and 300 m.

Construction started in October 2020, with commissioning scheduled for the end of 2022.

The 88 MW project will be the first floating offshore wind project to supply power for oil & gas installations. It is expected to cover about 35% of the annual power needs on the Snorre A and B and Gullfaks A, B and C platforms.
