The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Chrysaor drilling permits for two wells located in the North Sea offshore Norway.
The NPD said on Monday that Chrysaor had been granted a drilling permit for wildcat well 15/12-25 and another one for wildcat well 15/12-26 .
Both wells are located in production licence 973 in the North Sea. The area in this licence is part of block 15/12.
Both wells will be drilled from the COSLInnovator drilling rig with 15/12-25 being the first and 15/12-26 the second in line.
The first well will be drilled about seven kilometres northwest of the Rev field and the second one will be drilled about 10 kilometres south of the 15/12-21 (Grevling) oil discovery.
Production licence 973 was awarded on 1 March 2019 (APA2018). These two wells will be the first and the second exploration wells to be drilled in the licence.
Chrysaor Norge is the operator of the licence with an ownership interest of 50 per cent. Other licensees are OKEA (30 per cent) and Petoro (20 per cent).
Following a letter of intent in July 2020, Chrysaor signed a drilling contract with rig provider COSL for the use of the sixth-generation semi-submersible rig COSLInnovator back in August 2020.
The rig owner has kept the COSLInnovator in operational condition, better known as “ready to drill”, for a long period of time.
In addition to keeping the crew and rig ready for operation, COSL Drilling Europe has made investments in green technology on its units with energy control system installed onboard COSLInnovator.
The operations for Chrysaor will be run out of Stavanger with the drilling set to start in early 2021.
