West Bollsta rig - Lundin

Norway’s offshore safety regulator, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), has given Lundin consent for exploration drilling of an offshore well using the West Bollsta rig.

The 16/4-13 S well is located in production licence 359 in the North Sea offshore Norway.

The well will be drilled using the West Bollsta semi-submersible rig in a water depth of 102 metres.

Drilling operations are expected to start in January or February 2021 and last about 31 days.

Lundin has already secured a drilling permit for the well from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).

Lundin is the operator of the 359 licence with an ownership interest of 65 per cent. Other licensees are OMV with a 20 per cent and Wintershall Dea with a 15 per cent interest.

The area in this licence consists of the north-eastern part of block 16/4. The well will be drilled about six kilometres northwest of the discovery well 16/4-6 S on the Solveig field. This is the sixth exploration well to be drilled in the licence.

The West Bollsta is a harsh environment semi-submersible rig built by Hyundai in December 2017. It is capable of operating in harsh environment areas and ultra-deep waters of up to 10,000 feet.
