Vattenfall gets electricity production permit for Kriegers Flak OWF

On 21 January, the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) granted an electricity production permit and issued an electricity production license to Vattenfall for the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm in Denmark.

The permit is valid for 25 years from the time when the first electricity is delivered from the offshore wind farm to the grid.

The first power is expected to flow into the Danish grid at the end of January or at the beginning of February. According to Vattenfall’s posts on social media, the first wind turbine will soon be installed.

As the installation of wind turbines continues, they will be connected to the grid until the entire offshore wind farm is connected, for which the deadline is set to 31 December 2021.

The Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm will consist of 72 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines with “power boost” possibility which can increase their output up to 8.4 MW. The wind farm can deliver a total power output of up to 604.8 MW. However, it may deliver a maximum of 600 MW measured at the grid connection point.

Offshore construction at the project site some 15-40 kilometres off the Danish Baltic Sea coast started in May 2020 and all the 72 wind turbine foundations have been in place as of August last year .

Once fully operational, Kriegers Flak will become Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm and will be able to produce green electricity corresponding to the annual consumption of approximately 600,000 households.
