CNOOC hits large oil and gas find in Bohai Bay

CNOOC Limited has made a large-sized oil and gas discovery Bozhong 13-2 in Bohai Bay located offshore China.

The Bozhong 13-2 structure is located in the south-western Ring of Bozhong Sag in Bohai Bay with an average water depth of about 23.2 meters.

In a statement on Sunday, CNOOC said that the discovery well BZ13-2-2 was drilled and completed at a depth of 5,223 meters.

The well encountered oil pay zones with a total thickness of approximately 346 meters.

The Chinese company tested the well to produce an average of approximately 1,980 barrels of crude oil and 5.25 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Zhou Xinhuai , General Manager of Exploration Department of the Company said, “The successful exploration of Bozhong 13-2 structure is another remarkable exploration achievement for the company to continuously enhancing its efforts in oil and gas exploration and production in offshore China.

“After obtaining Bozhong 19-6 large-sized condensate gas field, the company has made a significant breakthrough in the exploration of another type of buried hill in Bohai, which not only has important promotion value but also demonstrates promising exploration prospect in Bohai”.

To remind, CNOOC in October last year started production from the Bozhong 19-6 condensate gas field pilot area development project located offshore China.

The CNOOC-operated Bozhong 19-6 condensate gas field pilot area development project is located in the central Bohai with an average water depth of approximately 23 meters.

A new wellhead platform has been built and will fully utilize the existing processing facilities of Bozhong 13-1 oilfield.

Eight development wells are planned for production, including seven production wells and one water source well.

The project is expected to reach its peak production of approximately 35.32 million cubic feet of natural gas and 5,720 barrels of condensate oil per day by the end of 2020.
