Swire Energy Services (SES) and ELA Container Offshore have entered a strategic collaboration that will see the two companies jointly delivering offshore accommodation solutions to the UK offshore energy sector.

According to the companies, the new partnership will allow SES to increase its offshore container accommodation offering supported by ELA, while SES assists in the growth and exposure of ELA Container within the UK. SES noted that its locations in Aberdeen, Peterhead, Great Yarmouth and Heysham were ideally situated to support both the offshore wind and oil & gas markets.

As part of the collaboration, SES will stock and promote ELA’s “20ft DNV Allrounder” container to the UK offshore energy market. The container can be configured to meet various requirements such as 4 berth accommodation, toilet and sanitary facilities, meeting rooms, etc.

“This collaboration is a perfect fit for us as we continue to expand our offering throughout the UK and strive to be the easiest company to work with through a fully integrated service offering. We are excited to see the growth potential and where this collaboration will take SES and ELA in the future” , said Wayne Manning , Standing UK General Manager at Swire Energy Services.

Along with its prominent offshore oil & gas sector, the UK is also leading in the currently installed offshore wind capacity and ended 2020 with 10,206 MW. While the much bigger China is expected to soon overtake UK’s position in this regard as it ramps up its offshore wind installation, UK is nevertheless set to add massive offshore wind capacity in the next decade. As the country announced last year that it was increasing its offshore wind target to 40 GW by 2030, the UK Prime Minister said that the commitments were set out to ensure that offshore wind would produce more than enough electricity to power every home in the UK.

The UK is already home to the world’s largest offshore wind farm in operation, the 1.2 GW Hornsea One, and has several other big projects under development and nearing construction, including the giant 3.6 GW Dogger Bank Wind Farm.
