First wind turbine being installed at Moray East offshore wind farm

The Bold Tern jack-up vessel has installed 24 wind turbines at the Moray East offshore wind farm in Scotland.

The 100-turbine project is now one installation away from reaching a quarter of its wind turbines in place.

The 24th Vestas (MHI Vestas) 9.5 MW unit was installed on 17 April, according to Moray East’s latest Notice of Operations, after the work started in mid-January . Bold Tern is picking up the components at the Port of Nigg, where Global Energy Group’s facility is serving as the onshore pre-assembly site for the project, carrying a batch of four wind turbines to the Moray East site at a time.

The commissioning work is being performed from Acta Centaurus and supported by two crew transfer vessels, HST Harri and Windcat 40 .

All three of Moray East’s offshore transformer modules (OTMs) have been in place since September 2020 and inter-array cable laying has been completed recently, with burial, termination and testing works still ongoing.

The 950 MW offshore wind farm, scheduled for commissioning in 2022, is being developed by Moray Offshore Windfarm East Ltd (MOWEL), a joint venture company owned by Ocean Winds (56.6%) Diamond Green Limited (33.4%), and CTG (10%).
