Singapore’s offshore builder Dyna-Mac has been hired by BW Offshore to build topside modules for an FPSO, which will operate for Santos on the Barossa gas field located offshore Australia.
Dyna-Mac has secured a fabrication project from BW Offshore, a repeat customer, for a total estimated contract value of S$197 million ($148 million), the company said on Monday.
The contract with a subsidiary of the BW Offshore is for the supply, fabrication, and construction of topside modules for the Barossa floating production storage offloading (FPSO) vessel, which will be operating in offshore Darwin in northern Australia.
Adding this contract win, Dyna-Mac’s order book stands at S$368 million ($276.6 million) with deliveries up to the year 2023.
The company noted it is currently evaluating the need to expand its yard capacities and is increasing its local and overseas fabrication capacity to fulfil the potential demand in FPSO topside modules, LNG, and hydrogen/ammonia production modules.
Santos awarded a contract for the construction, connection, and operation of an FPSO for the Barossa gas field project to BW Offshore back in March 2021. The Barossa field is located 300 kilometres offshore Darwin.
The lease and operate contract has a firm period of 15 years, with 10 years of options. The firm period contract is worth about $4.6 billion.
The field will be developed via an FPSO with six subsea production wells, in-field facilities, and a gas export pipeline tied into the Bayu-Undan to Darwin pipeline system that supplies gas to Darwin LNG.
The BW contract award was subject to a Final Investment Decision (FID) for the project, which Santos made at the end of March. The first gas from the project is targeted for the first half of 2025.
The unit will be a large FPSO with a processing capacity for up to 800 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and design capacity of 11,000 barrels per day of stabilised condensate.
The FPSO will be turret moored with a newbuild hull based on BW Offshore’s RapidFramework design. The topside weight is approximately 35,000 tons.
TechnipFMC has already received a notice from Santos to proceed with the subsea production system contract for the Barossa project.
Furthermore, BW earlier in May hired APL , part of NOV’s completion and production solutions segment, for the supply of a large, submerged turret production (STP) system for the Barossa FPSO.
