Nexans takes delivery of CLV Aurora

Nexans has taken delivery of its newbuild DP3 cable laying vessel (CLV) Nexans Aurora from Ulstein Verft.

Nexans Aurora will be named in a ceremony in Ulsteinvik on 8 June, before leaving for its homeport Halden and Nexans’ subsea high voltage cables competence center.

The vessel is delivered on time despite the Covid-19 pandemic, with all the implications, restrictions and delays being dealt with in areas such as purchasing and deliveries, traveling restrictions, quarantines and much more, the cable specialist said.

“This is a memorable day for the project team and for Nexans and I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this project’s success,” said Nexans’ project manager, Frode Beyer .

“We are now looking forward to bringing the Nexans Aurora out into the world to contribute to Nexans’ purpose “Electrify the Future”, for a greener place to be.”

To remind, Nexans signed a deal with Ulstein Verft for Nexans Aurora back in July 2018 and the construction kicked off in February 2019.

The 150-meter long vessel completed its sea trials at the beginning of May, after which outfitting, some paint jobs and tests on the A-frame and some of the winches were carried out.

Its first assignment will be the installation of the export cables at the 1,075 MW Seagreen offshore wind farm in Scotland.
