MMT and SEP Hydrographic are set to conduct the geophysical and environmental survey at the Pentland floating offshore wind project in Scotland.
Geophysical and environmental survey work will be carried out in the offshore areas and coastal sea areas west of the Pentland Firth.
MMT will conduct the geophysical survey in the offshore area north of Dounreay. It will be conducted with a hull-mounted multibeam sonar with towed ROTV mounted sidescan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, and tethered magnetometer. Additionally, a seismic sparker will be towed behind the vessel.
The total geophysical survey is planned for approximately 31 days, but poor weather may extend these dates.
SEP Hydrographic will carry out the nearshore export route survey using survey vessel Pulsar from 21 June.
The work will commence from the 10-meter Contour working towards the nearshore. It will be conducted with a pole-mounted multibeam sonar with towed side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, and magnetometer.
The total survey is planned for approximately 15 days, but it is weather dependant.
The Pentland wind farm, developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), is expected to feature up to ten 10-16 MW turbines that will make a total capacity of up to 100 MW.
Construction is planned to begin upon financial close in 2024, with commissioning scheduled for 2026.
