GTT and COSCO Shipping sign LNG tank deal

French LNG containment specialist GTT has signed technical assistance and license agreement (TALA) with China’s COSCO Shipping for the construction of membrane tanks.

GTT reports that this agreement enables COSCO Shipping Qingdao to offer solutions using GTT’s membrane containment systems for the construction of several types of LNG storage for both marine and onshore applications.

After having successfully completed a qualification process that began in June 2019, COSCO obtained its license from GTT including the construction of a GST technology mock-up.

COSCO Shipping Qingdao is reportedly the second Chinese licensed GTT outfitter.

COSCO Shipping Qingdao is currently investing in a large-scale mock-up, training center, and set of equipment for the installation and welding of the GTT’s membrane technology.
