Deepsea Stavanger rig will drill the North Sea well for Lundin

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has issued a drilling permit to Lundin Energy Norway for a well in the North Sea off Norway.

The well 16/1-34 A will be drilled from the Odfjell Drilling-owned Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig.

The drilling programme for well 16/1-34 A relates to the drilling of an appraisal well in production licence 167.

Lundin is the operator of the licence with an ownership interest of 40 per cent. Other licensees are Equinor Energy (30 per cent), Spirit Energy Norway (20 per cent), and Aker BP (10 per cent).

The area in this licence consists of part of block 16/1. The well will be drilled about 6 kilometres northeast of the Ivar Aasen field.

Production licence 167 was awarded on 1 March 1991 in the 13th licensing round. This is the 10th exploration well to be drilled in this licence.

Following a letter of intent from January 2021, Lundin Energy and Odfjell Drilling signed a contract for the Deepsea Stavanger rig in early March 2021.

After an initial agreement for one firm well plus eight optional wells, the deal was changed to three firm wells plus six optional wells. The firm scope has a contractual value of approx $33 million.
