South Korean wind turbine tower manufacturer CS Wind has received an order worth tens of millions of Euros in Taiwan, which the company will deliver through its Taiwanese subsidiary.
According to an update on the Korean stock exchange from 29 July, Vestas has ordered towers for offshore wind turbines from CS Wind in Taiwan under a contract valued at KRW 61.67 billion (around €45 million).
No details about the number of towers or the offshore wind project(s) they are meant to be installed on are available, except that the towers are agreed to be delivered by the end of 2023.
Offshore Energy – Offshore Wind has contacted CS Wind to find out more about the order, with the company yet to respond.
CS Wind has been supplying towers for multiple wind turbine manufacturers for a long time now and has been contracted by Vestas and Siemens Gamesa for several offshore wind projects using their turbines, including those in Taiwan.
In June last year, CS Wind and Chin Fong Machine Industrial rolled out the first 20 Taiwan-made towers for Siemens Gamesa’s 8 MW turbines for the 640 MW Yunlin offshore wind farm.
Two months later, Vestas (then MHI Vestas Offshore Wind) signed a purchase agreement to source wind turbine towers from CS Wind-Chin Fong for the Changfang Phases 1 and 2, Xidao, and Zhong Neng offshore wind farms in Taiwan.

According to the stock exchange updates from CS Wind over the last few days, the company has signed several contracts with both Siemens Gamesa and Vestas, as well as other wind turbine suppliers such as Goldwind, for the delivery of towers in Asia Pacific, North America and Europe. However, it is unclear whether any of these latest contracts involve offshore wind projects.
The company, which has subsidiaries in several places worldwide, including the UK, has also decided to further strengthen its presence in Europe, especially in the offshore wind sector, and is now acquiring a 60 per cent stake in the Portuguese tower and foundation manufacturer ASM Industries.
