CRA pipeline installed at Julimar phase 2 project

Subsea 7 has completed the installation and hydrotesting of the 22-kilometer Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) pipeline at Woodside Energy’s Julimar Development Phase 2 project in Australia.

The company’s reel-lay vessel Seven Oceans was in charge of installing what is said to be Australia’s first reeled 18” insulated CRA pipeline.

The Julimar field is located approximately 200 kilometers offshore North-Western Australia.

Subsea 7’s full scope of work is to design, procure, install and commission the CRA gas transmission flowline and an umbilical system, under a contract secured at the end of 2019.

This March, Woodside received approval from Australian offshore regulator NOPSEMA for the revised environment plan for the operation of a petroleum pipeline and any other petroleum-related activity on the Julimar field.

The Perth-headquartered company is the operator of the field production system (FPS), located in Commonwealth waters about 160 kilometers north-west of Dampier and adjacent to the Chevron-operated Wheatstone platform.

The Julimar FPS, which started production in 2016, includes wells in WA-49-L and flowlines/pipelines in WA-26-PL and WA-29-PL.

The start-up activities associated with the Phase 2 wells and associated subsea infrastructure are planned to start in mid-2021.
