Second subsea cable batch on its way to 310 MW Vietnamese OWF

China-based power cable company Orient Cable has shipped the second batch of subsea cables for the Binh Dai offshore wind project in Vietnam .

According to the company’s update, subsea cables together with 150 pieces of accessories, including hang-off, cable protection system (CPS) and termination, are on the way to Vietnam.

They will be installed in the BinhDai District in a very short time and come into operation this year, Orient Cable said.

To remind, the company secured the EPCI contract for the wind farm in September 2020 to provide and install 185 kilometres of the 35 kV subsea cable system.

Orient Cable delivered the first shipment of cables in March this year and started the first subsea cable laying work at the Vietnamese offshore wind project in June.

Binh Dai is located seven kilometres offshore and due to the proximity to the mainland it will use 35kV submarine cable to connect the offshore turbines to the onshore substation directly.

Mekong Wind Power Joint Stock Company is developing the 310 MW wind farm which will comprise 74 turbines, Siemens Gamesa 4.5 MW and Goldwind 3.3 MW units, to be installed in phases.

The consortium of PowerChina Huadong Engineering Corporation and PowerChina International Group is the EPC contractor for the project.
