U.S. offshore engineering firm McDermott has joined the AquaVentus offshore wind-to-hydrogen project so it can contribute to German and European hydrogen strategy.

The AquaVentus consortium is developing a large project for green hydrogen production, powered by ten gigawatts of offshore wind. The location is the North Sea, with the start by 2035.

Specifically, wind power will produce up to one million tonnes of production capacity of green hydrogen, which will then decarbonize Heligoland. The green hydrogen will then be transported to land via pipeline.

This is a growing consortium of more than 70 companies, with McDermott joining in the latest round.

The company’s involvement includes engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) experience in the offshore, subsea, and storage markets, from concept to completion.
