Japan’s shipping company NYK Line discussed ammonia as a means to carbon-neutrality, in addition to issues related to the introduction of ammonia as a marine fuel in the shipping industry.
The International Conference on Fuel Ammonia 2021 took place on 6 October. The goal of the conference is to build partnerships for a stable and flexible market and supply chain for ammonia.
Attending, NYK tackled the themes of marine transportation of ammonia and its use as a marine fuel. These are seen as essential in building a supply chain for fuel ammonia.
Toshi Nakamura , an NYK executive officer, talked about the supply of ammonia as a means of realizing a carbon-free future. He also discussed issues related to the introduction of marine fuel ammonia in the shipping industry.
Nakamura explained that Japan is working together with the public and private sectors to address these issues. Additionally, He presented NYK’s specific efforts to introduce fuel ammonia.
To remind, NYK released the ‘NYK Group ESG Story ‘ in February this year. This is a guideline that aims to further integrate ESG into the company’s management strategy. In particular, NYK considers the reduction of GHG emissions to be an important issue and is working to create new green businesses.
