Origin Energy and J-POWER team up on green ammonia in Tasmania

Australian energy company Origin Energy and Japanese electric utility J-POWER have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for joint research on the development of a green ammonia export project in Australia.

Australian energy company Origin Energy and Japanese electric utility J-POWER have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for joint research on the development of a green ammonia export project in Australia.

Origin has a 7,500 megawatts generation portfolio, including 1,200 megawatts owned and contracted renewables and storage. It is also an upstream operator of Australia Pacific LNG, which exports natural gas to Asia and supplies approximately 30 per cent of annual Australian east coast gas demand.

Currently, Origin is exploring the development of carbon-neutral fuels, such as green hydrogen and green ammonia .
