Ocean Power Innovation Network (OPIN) has launched an industry survey on current practices for corrosion protection of offshore reinforced concrete structures used in offshore renewables sector.
OPIN is a European collaborative network that aims to accelerate the growth of the offshore renewable energy sector and its supply chains.
The basic premise is to encourage both cross-sectoral and cross-regional collaboration for offshore renewable energy SMEs and associate partners (research organizations, large companies, public institutions).
As part of OPIN, a working group has been established to deal with corrosion in reinforced concrete structures used for offshore renewables.
Led by WEAMEC, the group is conducting a survey on current practices for corrosion protection of offshore reinforced concrete structures
The aggregated results of the study will be analysed and compiled in an OPIN report to be published in 2022.
The report will aim at identifying future R&D paths to reduce corrosion costs for offshore renewables.
The information provided will be treated as strictly confidential and only used for the specific purposes of this research, OPIN said, encouraging the submission of feedback by Janaury 17, 2022.
OPIN is a 3-year initiative, running from 2019 to 2022, with the total project budget of €2.6 million, supported by €1.5 million in by Interreg North West Europe from the European Research and Development Fund (ERDF).
WEAMEC is one of the partners in this project which includes the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland as coordinator, DMEC (Netherlands), Scottish Enterprise (United Kingdom), Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (United Kingdom), Sirris (Belgium) and Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung (Germany).
