Finnish shipbuilder Työvene and Maritime office of Gdynia has signed a contract worth €20 million for the construction and delivery of a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD).
According to shipbuilder, the order is a result of a tender where the design developed by Työvene and Dutch partners C-Job and Holland Marine Technologies was found not to only fulfill but exceed all the client’s complex needs and requirements.
The company also added that this project will have a significant effect on Työvene, directly providing full employment for shipyard’s own staff in Uusikaupunki and numerous sub-contractors.

“I hope this sends out a positive signal both to Finnish and international customers that to ensure state-of-the-art products, it is crucial to consider other factors than just the price point.”
The delivery of the new hopper dredger is set for late 2023.
When completed, the ship will be used by the Maritime office of Gdynia for maintenance and preservation work on the five metres deep main waterway from the Gulf of Gdansk through the Vistula Lagoon to the Elbląg River.
It will also be used to maintain track depth parameters of smaller ports of the Vistula Lagoon, where depths can be up to 18 metres.
