Norwegian Norbit Subsea has secured a number of contracts with surveying companies related to its WINGHEAD multibeam technology.
Namely, Norbit Subsea has signed a contract with Irish ocean data company XOCEAN to supply multiple WINGHEAD multibeam systems for XOCEAN’s fleet of uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) .
The systems to be mounted on USVs platforms are expected to enable XOCEAN to conduct its surveys in safe, economic and carbon-neutral ways.
As part of another contract, wind-and-solar-powered USV manufacturer Saildrone has purchased six WINGHEAD i80S multibeam sonars to provide low-carbon USV-based survey and inspection.
“Norbit’s WINGHEAD i80s will further support Saildrone’s reputation as the benchmark for uncrewed maritime intelligence collection” , said Brian Connon , Saildrone’s vice president of Ocean Mapping.
“With only 20% of the seabed mapped at high resolution, there is an urgent need for more capable, cost-effective options to capture high-resolution mapping for rapidly growing industries from offshore wind to subsea cables. We are excited to provide a turnkey solution for the industry.”
Under the third contract, the Norwegian company has delivered two multibeam survey systems to Associated British Ports (ABP) North West.
According to the company, the Norbit WINGHEAD is now installed on the ABP’s ChristineH survey vessel built by Cheetah Marine, whilst the smaller Wyke vessel is equipped with iWBMS.

Finally, Australia-based Seismic Asia Pacific has acquired Norbit’s recently launched iWBMS Ekinox multibeam echo sounder, adding to its inventory of the iWBM and WINGHEAD products.
