MAN ES-DNV collab to speed up maritime decarbonisation, digitalisation

German engine maker MAN Energy Solutions (MAN ES) and classification society DNV have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on decarbonisation, digitalisation and hydrogen in the maritime industry.

As disclosed, the MoU was signed on 9 March at a digital ceremony and is effective immediately, due to run for a period of three years.

Under the deal, the parties will provide detailed action plans within the fields of decarbonisation , the hydrogen value-chain and digitalisation by 30 June 2022.

“Decarbonisation and digitalisation are transforming the maritime industry . Through collaboration, we can tackle this transformation, and together with MAN Energy Solutions, we will be shaping solutions that bring value to both our companies and, most importantly, to our customers”, said DNV’s CEO Remi Eriksen .

Commenting on the MoU, Uwe Lauber , CEO of MAN ES, said: “Reaching the 1.5°C target requires a major reduction in the shipping industry’s carbon footprint, a storm that really demands all hands on deck. We welcome the opportunity to meet with like-minds – both inside and outside the industry – on this inevitable path to net-zero.”

Gregory Puckett , head of Group Digital at MAN ES added that the company believes that cross-industry cooperation is essential and collaboration with DNV is of mutual benefit, allowing them to leverage each other’s respective expertise.
