French tidal energy company EEL Energy is making final steps before launching its new commercial-scale 50kW tidal energy turbine for trials in the Port of Brest.
For the past year, two EEL Energy’s tidal turbines have been operating in the water discharge channel of an aquaculture farm in Gravelines in Northern France.
One of those is equipped with artificial intelligence capabilities, enabling it to regulate and adapt its production according to the conditions of currents, according to EEL Energy.
The ‘very promising feedback’, as EEL Energy said, allowed the project to advance to a prototype testing phase on a commercial-scale.
In that regard, a 50kW tidal turbine is currently being assembled before deployment for testing in the Port of Brest, planned for May 2022.
According to EEL Energy, this machine will be able to produce 500kWh per day, which is the equivalent to the electrical power consumed by around 20 households.
Based on the concept of bio-mimicry, EEL Energy’s tidal energy converter has been designed to replicate the undulating movements of marine life to produce clean power.
To remind, EEL Energy is looking for investors in order to accelerate the development of its tidal turbine technology, as the company aims to reach 1MWh by 2024.
EEL Energy is aiming to collect up to €2 million through r ecently launched fundraising campaig n by the end of June, with minimum ticket set at €100,000.
