Technip Energies and Samsung Engineering form joint venture for Texas LNG project

French engineering company Technip Energies and Korean construction company Samsung Engineering have been awarded a Pre-FID (final investment decision) engineering contract for the Texas LNG project in the U.S.

The companies have been appointed, through a joint venture, lead project contractor charged with project design and delivery.

The proposed four million tonnes per anum (mtpa) LNG export facility site is strategically located on the Port of Brownsville’s deep-water ship channel in close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. Texas LNG fills the need of LNG customers seeking smaller contracted volumes to diversify their gas supply portfolio.

The project will use Technip Energies’ SnapLNG solution, which combines a compact modular design concept for mid-scale trains with standardized components and technology. Developed in collaboration with Air Products, this solution offers lower emissions and is particularly suited for low-to-zero carbon footprint LNG and phased developments.

Loic Chapuis from Technip Energies stated, “LNG is more critical than ever in the current global energy context and we are committed to bring our long-standing leadership in LNG to address today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. Our SnapLNG solution illustrates how Technip Energies can address these challenges by bringing to market a low-carbon, modularized and methane-free solution with a compressed time.”

Texas LNG, a Glenfarne Group Company, has full authorization from FERC and the Department of Energy and will export to global LNG markets. Glenfarne is a developer, owner, and operator of energy transition infrastructure. Through its controlled subsidiaries, is the managing member and majority owner of Texas LNG.

The project expects to achieve the final investment decision (FID) in 2022 and commercial operations in 2026.

Besides this project, Glenfarne Group also owns Magnolia LNG with plans to develop it in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
