A UK client has chartered the Safe Boreas unit from Prosafe to provide gangway-connected operations to support a platform shutdown in the UK North Sea.
Prosafe said on Wednesday that the firm duration of the contract, starting September 2022, is 21 days with up to 30 days of options. The value of the contract firm duration is $3.7 million.
Jesper Kragh Andresen , CEO of Prosafe, said: “The Safe Boreas is presently operational in the Norwegian sector and this contract will provide supplemental utilisation in 2022. Furthermore, this commitment from the client demonstrates the flexibility and value offered by the Safe Boreas for a relatively short duration workscope.”
The Safe Boreas offshore accommodation unit started a contract on the Norwegian Continental Shelf on 1 May 2022. This contract has a firm duration of three months and two additional one-month options. As previously reported, ConocoPhillips received consent from the offshore safety regulator in Norway to use the Safe Boreas unit at the Ekofisk field. Prior to that, it worked for CNOOC on the Buzzard field in the UK.
Delivered in 2015, the Safe Boreas, a sister vessel to the Safe Zephyrus, was built at Jurong Shipyard, Singapore, to the GVA 3000E design. It is equipped with a DP3 system and 12-point wire mooring arrangement.
Over the last couple of months, Prosafe secured new work with Petrobras in Brazil for its Safe Notos Safe Eurus offshore accommodation rigs. The company is also planning to take the delivery of two of its newbuild units from China’s COSCO once contract opportunities materialise with expectations for Brazil to be the most likely location for these opportunities.
