Italian contractor Saipem has informed that the Nong Fab LNG terminal in Thailand offloaded the first LNG from the LNG carrier, moored at the plant jetty.
On 24 June, Saipem said in a statement that on 18 June the terminal, located in Mueang Rayong District, began offloading the first LNG cargo.
In 2018, PTT LNG, a unit of Thailand’s state-owned energy firm PTT, awarded the $925 million EPC contract to a joint venture of Saipem and CTCI Corporation to build the LNG terminal.
The work on the project started on 18 July 2018. The scope of the work includes the execution on an EPC basis of two 250,000 cbm LNG storage tanks; a gassification facility of 7.5 million tonnes of LNG per year; a 6-kilometre trestle unloading facility; and an eco-friendly administrative building.
Moreover, this is a particularly significant project as its tank capacity is the largest ever executed in Thailand. Sapiem also said that the project includes the world’s largest trestle in the LNG sector.
The Nong Fab LNG terminal’s full commissioning and start-up are expected within 2022. This will provide the country with a stable and reliable energy supply, in response to the increasing power demand.
This is a fundamental milestone for the project, says Saipem.
