Offshore vessel provider MMA Offshore has secured a deal for one of its platform supply vessels (PSVs) with OMV New Zealand, a subsidiary of Austria’s oil and gas company OMV, for operations in New Zealand.
MMA Offshore disclosed earlier during the week that it was awarded a contract to provide vessel services for OMV New Zealand with the PSV MMA Leeuwin .
The vessel will be deployed to provide drilling support services for OMV in the Taranaki Basin in New Zealand. The contract – for a firm period of 200 days, with additional option periods totalling 150 days – is expected to start in late September 2022.
Commenting on the contract award, David Ross , MMA’s Managing Director, remarked: “We are extremely pleased to be continuing our strong working relationship with OMV New Zealand through this key work scope. As we continue to expand our operational portfolio within the New Zealand region, we look forward to supporting OMV and delivering a safe and successful outcome on this project.”
The company explains that the value of this deal is expected to be between A$10 – 11 million (around $6.8 – $7.4 million), including the vessel mobilisation costs to and from Western Australia plus the firm operational days on site in New Zealand.
“It is encouraging to see rates and contract terms improving for high quality, well maintained and operated platform supply vessels,” concluded Ross.
The 2013-built PSV MMA Leeuwin was designed by VARD and constructed in the ASL Shipyard Singapore. Upon delivery, the vessel was contracted to Woodside consistently over a five-year period.
When it comes to MMA Offshore’s other developments, it is worth noting that the vessel provider added the first Taiwanese vessel to its fleet recently following the reflagging of the multipurpose vessel MMA Crystal .
The vessel will now be able to support the offshore wind market in Taiwan.
