South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has secured an order for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from undisclosed European shipowners.
The value of the new contract is estimated at KRW 649.5 billion (around $495 million).
According to local media, DSME will construct the 174,000 cbm LNG carriers at the Okpo shipyard.
The ships will be delivered to their owners by the end of November 2026.
With the latest contract, the order worth is estimated at $6.43 billion, including 20 LNG carriers and six containerships, which amounts to 72.2% of DSME’s yearly order target of $8.9 billion.
When it comes to building LNG carriers for European shipowners, DSME recently won an order for two units from Greece-based shipping company Maran Gas Maritime, a subsidiary of the Angelicoussis Group.
The 174,000 cbm ships will be built at the Okpo Shipyard and are expected to be delivered to their owner in the first half of 2026.
In other company-related news, DSME is also constructing four LNG carriers to be used in QatarEnergy’s North Field Expansion Project .
As informed, each newbuild will be equipped with a low-pressure dual-fuel propulsion engine (ME-GA) and re-liquefaction facility, which is an eco-friendly ship that can significantly reduce air pollutant emissions.
In addition, the latest technologies such as DS4, DSME’s smart ship solution, will be applied for efficient ship operation.
